Practicing mainly the sopranino and baritone saxophones, and first influenced by Steve Lacy, Antonny Braxton, John Surman, Hamiet Bluiett; his meetings with saxophonists Lol Coxhill and later Michel Doneda were finally decisive - guiding his playing to a world where material sound and abstract melodies coexist and intermingle.
Always been sensitive to the visual arts, Maurice Charles JJ is interested in electro-acoustic music, sound art and particularly to "soundscapes".
He collaborates with other forms of artistic expression by contribution with the unique color of his instrument’s own rare vocal qualities which he also uses for his sound creations.

Tout est dans le titre. Un son synthétique répétitif, quelques bribes sonores au saxophone sopranino, la réminiscence d'un passé lointain s'est greffée dans mes pensées colorant mon inspiration. Des machines chuintantes....la vapeur sous pression...sifflet, un train s'élançe vers une destination inconnue à toute vapeur.
